For the most part, the first hour of each class will consist of lecture regarding the class topic and the final hour will be devoted to presentations, discussion and class exercises. A scheduled 30-minute break will be held between 10:30am-11am. The instructor will not record any portion of the class; any personal recording of the first hour of class must be only for individual review and study. Recordings of the second hour of class should not be made under any circumstances, as participating students will have no opportunity to consent to such recordings.

Summer 2024 office hours will be held on a drop-in basis each Monday and Wednesday 11am-12 noon. As necessary, private meetings can be arranged via email. UVic email: josephf@uvic.ca

Getting Started

Class sessions for this course will be conducted online using Zoom. Registered Students may access our online class sessions via BrightSpace using the Course Tools menu or directly at:

https://uvic.zoom.us/j/81261517869?pwd=eHFJdUJOSFRSSFRMZkhmM0ovcUtKZz09

Generally speaking, students will be required to share their video on Zoom, particularly during class discussions, exercises and presentations. Please contact the instructor if this poses a problem for a particular class session. Of course, there will be times when one’s zoom audio should be muted.

A reference guide for using Zoom is available at:

UVic’s Zoom tips for students are here:

Prior to the start of term, I will be available on Zoom at 11:00am on Monday, May 13th.

Three distinct websites will be utilized in this course:

Zoom is where we will hold our virtual meetings;
Brightspace is where you will find scheduling information and submit your work;
PolPsy.ca  is where to find links to required and recommended readings, as well as details on scheduling and assignments. All required and recommended readings for this course are available on this site.
